Notre-Dame Cathedral of Reims

Notre-Dame Cathedral of Reims, the Gothic art masterpiece where the kings of France were crowned, was one of the first monuments registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Every year it welcomes one million visitors.

In 2011 Notre-Dame will celebrate its 800th birthday. It is owned by the State, which directs the renovations and daily maintenance necessary to counter the degradations of time.

It was also the symbolic centre of the Archbishop's power, as Primate over the bishops of several dioceses in Northern France.

Erected between 1211 and 1516, in accordance with an architectural program of immense artistic richness, the Cathedral of Reims survives as one of the most beautiful examples of Gothic art.
